Prof. Jindřich Petráš will head the JAMU Faculty of Arts for the next 4 years

Rector of JAMU Petr Michálek today appointed prof. MgA. Jindřich Petráš as the Dean of the Faculty of Music of JAMU for the period 2026-2030. He was elected to the position by the Academic Senate of HF JAMU in October 2025.

Prof. Petráš (*1961) is a prominent personality of the Czech music and pedagogical scene. He studied the French horn at the Brno Conservatory and at JAMU, where he has been teaching since 1995. He has also taught for many years at the Brno Conservatory and has trained a number of successful horn players who are now active in leading orchestras at home and abroad.

As a performer, he has been a solo horn player with the Czech Philharmonic and the Brno Philharmonic and has collaborated with major conductors worldwide. He is a laureate of prestigious international competitions, including the Prague Spring Festival and the ARD Competition in Munich. He has performed throughout Europe, Asia and America and has participated in numerous recordings.

He has held a number of leading positions at the JAMU Faculty of Performing Arts – from 2012 to 2020 he was the dean of the faculty, and now he is the vice-dean for artistic activities. He is a member of artistic councils, an evaluator of the National Accreditation Office and is actively involved in the organisation of music competitions and the promotion of young talent.
